Short And Long Questions
Question 1 Answer.
Computer network: A group of computers connected through some medium is called computer network.
An example of computer network is internet.
Purpose of computer network: The main purpose of computer network is to share data or information, expensive hardware and software among various users. It is also used for communication of data from one place to another.
Types of computer networks:
On the basis of geographical area which a network occupies , there are three types of networks which are:
LAN: LAN stands for ‘Local Area Network’. A LAN is the group of computers connected in a small geographical area such as building, campus or small city.
LAN uses coaxial cable and twisted pear cable as communication medium or network medium. The main purpose of LAN is to share expensive hardware and software resources.
MAN: MAN stands for ‘Metropolitan Area Network’. It is a computer network which connects computers in a big city or more than one cities. Actually MAN connects several LAN’s so it covers more area than LAN.
WAN: WAN stands for ‘Wide Area Network’. It is a computer network which interconnects computers among different countries or even all over the world. WAN uses ordinary telephone lines, microwave or satellite as communication medium. A common example of WAN is internet.
Question 2 Answer.
Explaination of the following:
Client: It is a computer which uses network resources and services. A client requests server computer network resources. Client is also called terminal.
The operating system installed on client computer is called client software.
Server: It is a computer on a network which provided network resources and services to the client on their request. It is also called console.
The operating system installed on server computer is called server software.
Peer: It is a computer on network which uses network resources as well as provides it’s own resources to the network for sharing. i-e if one peer has a printer and other peer has a scanner then these resources (printer and scanner) can be shared between them.
Question 3 Answer.
Network Modal: The technique used for to develop computer network is called network modal.
Types of network modals: On the basis of the type of operating system there are three types of network modals.
Hybrid Network Modal
Client-Server Modal: In this modal there are several client computers which are connected to a server computer. The server manages and control the entire network. It also provides network resources and services to all the client computers.
In this modal a network administrator who is a high qualified and technical person is requird. He is responsible to manage and control all the users of network through server. He also assigns thm rights/permissions of accessing.
Peer-to-Peer Modal: In this modal there is no central computer or server. All the computers are peer. So, there is no centralized control over the entire netwok. Each peer computer uses computer network resources as well as provide it’s own resources to the network. Win 95, Win 98 are used for this modal.
Hybrid Network Modal: Hybrid network modal is a mixture or combination. So hybrid networkmodal is the modal which combines the best features of both the client-server modal and peer-to-peer network modals.
Question 4 Answer.
Internet: It is a network of computers of the entire world. Actually, internet is anetwork of all computer network presents all over the world. So, it connects computers throughout the world.
World Wide Web (WWW): It is a collection of sevral millions of websites present in the world. A website is a collection of many interlinked webpages and contains information about a specific field of life.
Question 5 Answer.
Network Topology: The physical shape of a network is called network topology.
The way in which computers and other equipments are interconnected to form a network is called network topology.
Types of network topology:
There are four basic types of network topology which are:
Mesh topology is further divided into two types one are called “True Mesh” and the other is “Hybrid Mesh.
