**Question 1.** Define rest and motion ?

Answer: Rest :- A body is said to be at rest if it do no change its position with respect to the surrounding.

Motion:- A body is said to be in motion if it changes it’s position with respect to the surrounding.

**Question 2.** Define distance and displacement ?

Answer: **Distance :-** The length of actual path traversed by a body in motion is known as distance. The actual path way be straight or curved. The distance is scalar quantity and it’s SI unit is meter.

**Displacement :-** The shortest distance between two points is known as displacement.

**Question 3.** Define the following terms ?

Position , speed , uniform speed , variable speed , average speed , instantaneous speed.

Answer: **Position :-** The location of an object relative to some reference point (origin) is known as position of that object.

**Speed :-** The distance covered by a moving body in one second is known is speed, speed = distance covered / time.

**Uniform speed (constant speed) :-** A body is said to be moving with uniform speed , if it covers equal distance in equal intervals time.

**Variable speed :-** A bosy is said to be moving with variable speed if it covers unequal distance in equal intervals time.

**Average speed :-** The average speed of a moving body can be obtained by dividing total distance covered by total time taken.

Velocity , uniform velocity , variable velocity , average velocity , instantaneous velocity.

**Velocity :-** The distance covered by a body in one second along a particular direction is known as velocity. OR

The rate of change of displacement is known as velocity.

velocity = displacement/time

**Uniform velocity :-** A body is said to be moving with uniform velocity , if it covers equal displacement in equal intervals of time.

**Variable velocity :-** A body is said to be moving with variable velocity , if it covers unequal displacement in equal intervals of time.

**Average velocity :-** The average velocity cab be obtained by dividing total displacement by total tiem taken .

**Instantaneous velocity :-** The velocity of a body at any particular instant of time is known as instantaneous velocity.

Acceleration , uniform acceleration , variable acceleration , radical acceleration , linear acceleration , positive acceleration , negative acceleration , Instantaneous acceleration.

**Acceleration :-** The rate of change of velocity is known as acceleration.

**Uniform acceleration : –** A body is said to be moving with uniform acceleration if equal change occurs in velocity in equal intervals of time.

**Variable acceleration : –** A body is said to be moving with variable acceleration if unequal change occurs in velocity in equal intervals of time.

**Radical acceleration : –** The acceleration which is produced due to change in direction of velocity is known as radical acceleration.

**Linear acceleration : –** The acceleration which is produced due to change in magnitude of velocity is known as linear acceleration.

**Positive acceleration :-** The acceleration is said to be positive if the magnitude of velocity increases with respect to time.

**Negative acceleration :-** The acceleration will be negative , if the magnitude of velocity decreases with respect to time.

**Instantaneous acceleraton : –** The acceleration of a body at any particular instant of time is known as instantaneous acceleration.

**Question 11.** Define free fall motion ? Also define the acceleration due to gravity ?

**Answer:** If we drop an object from certian height ‘h’ and ignore the air resistance , then such motion of the body is known as free fall motion. The acceleration the acceleration of free fall body is called acceleration due to gravity. It is represented by ‘g’ . Its value varies with altitude and depth. On earth surface or near earth surface its value is 9. m/sec (square).
